My Purrbabies

Hi, y’all.

On this unusually chilly April morning, it occurs to me that I’ve yet to introduce you guys to my purrbabies.

Jay

The first is Jay.  Or, Lil Jay, as we call her.  She’s a snob.  One of those cats that always seems to give the impression that you should feel privileged to be allowed to pet her.  The only toy she really likes is string (or grass, sticks, switches, anything you can drag across the ground or the floor).  If you give her a toy mouse, she just looks at you like you’re crazy.  Her favorite food is sardines.  She purrs really loud while eating those.  And, best of all, when she’s in the mood, she is a lap kitty.  There’s nothing like having a purring cat in your lap.

Seigan

Next is Seigan.  My nephew, whose cat he, technically, is, named him.  The name is supposed to be Japanese for “blue eyes”.  And they were very much so when he was small.  Now he has lion eyes.  And vampire fangs.  I swear.  Even when his mouth is closed, you can see his fangs.

This is a cowardly lion, though.  He doesn’t like strange people, or loud, strange noises.  But he also likes to hunt.  Birds, mice, bugs, squirrels, lizards, frogs, and even snakes.  He (and Jay, too), thinks that cicadas are the best cat toy ever invented.  Those two can play with those things for hours.  And, unlike Jay, he loves toy mice.  Although, one time, he dropped one in their water dish and dyed the water pink.

This cat has a fetish for fingers and toes.  He just loves to gnaw on them.  It doesn’t hurt.  He doesn’t really bite.  But he has yet to figure out that if he’s gnawing on my finger, I can’t use the hand to pet him.  And, in his eyes, this is crime of major proportions.  Sometimes, I think he believes you should pet him with both hands, and both feet.

Cookie

The youngest is Cookie, who belongs to my niece (who took these pictures with her new camera).  She is a little over six months old, and is full of energy.  An unfortunate amount of this energy is spent knocking over trash cans and playing with the curtains.  She’ll play with anything, but she has an odd thing for bags.  Paper or plastic, it doesn’t matter.  Though, of course, for her entertainment, we prefer paper.  She’ll even sleep in them.

And she likes to play fetch.  If, you ball up a piece of paper and throw it, she will bring it back.  Of course, most of the time there are side trips where she bats it around from here to yonder, but, eventually, she picks it up and brings it back.

Also, my nephew got one of those leprechaun hats for St. Patrick’s Day, and Cookie has claimed it as hers.  It is now a combination pillow, blanket, and teddy bear.  It’s really cute.

Cookie is the most vocal of our kitties.  She has a really loud purr, and she makes a range of other sounds.  Jay will make a comment now and then, and you can have a whole conversation with Seigan, but Cookie is the most expressive.  She makes frustrated meows, whiney mewls, contented purrs, and there’s something that sounds like a cross between a meow and a purr that means she’s about to get into mischief, or has already done so and is trying to sweet talk her way out of it!
