One can usually count on Mary Balogh for a good, character driven story, but Simply Magic, simply wasn’t. None of the characters, central or otherwise, jumped off the page for me, with, of course, the exception of old friends and acquaintances from previous books.
The principle characters were flat, and the conflict too neatly, easily, resolved so that the climax was rather anti-climatic.
Instead, reread Simply Love, the previous book in this series.
