Top Five Classics?

Recently, a very interesting question was asked in my online book group, BookCrazy:

I have really enjoyed certain classics now that I am old :-), such as Anna Karenina, East of Eden, Count of Monte Cristo, etc… What would be your top five classics if you had to choose?

Well, my list, when I thought about it, includes six titles (I couldn’t seem to choose one to leave out) and a few other “honorable mentions”.

  • The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • White Fang by Jack London
  • Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard
  • The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy
  • The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
  • Beowulf
  • The Iliad by Homer
  • The Odyssey by Homer
  • Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare
  • Macbeth by William Shakespeare
  • King Lear by William Shakespeare
  • and pretty much anything else Shakespeare
