This was a really good little book, full of danger and inspiration.
One thing: I felt like, in some ways, I was reading an optimistic version of The Witch of Portobello. Or, since The Alchemist came first, The Witch of Portobello was a pessimistic version of The Alchemist. Whatever. The basic concept is the same: free your mind, open your heart, and listen to the Light/Great Mother/Soul of the World.
However, unlike The Witch of Portobello, I actually enjoyed reading The Alchemist. It was very entertaining while being profound.
Are all of Coelho’s books like this, with this one underlying message? What, if anything, should I read next from this author?
