Jason’s every bit as enigmatic, fascinating, and gorgeous as I’d always imagined him to be. He kept me up into the wee hours of the morning. Mahiya is a wonderfully tragic, strong heroine. Both of them had me reaching for the tissues. However, the big mystery was rather obvious after a few chapters.
Lijuan continues to be creepy and frightening in her insanity, and we continue to be left to wonder whether or not Caliane is still crazy. There has to be more method to Lijuan’s madness than we’ve been told, because, while she’s definitely crazy in a Hannibal-Lector-meets-Hitler kind of way, with a little Vlad the Impaler mixed in, she’s not stupid.
And I can’t help but wonder if the new phenomenon will speed up the ascension of the mysterious angel on the cusp of evolving into an archangel. There’s no end to the problems and ramifications facing the Cadre of Ten. Not to mention humanity. And you know someone else is going to Awaken, just to mix things up some more.
Can’t wait for next year to read the next one. Ms. Singh says it will be Raphael and Elena again. After that, I’m hoping for either Aodhan or Illium, but figure it will probably be Venom, who gives me the creeps.
